Fashion over the Years
Each year captains are designated to lead their teams for the Ryder Cup competition. In 2019 we saw our first competition where a pair of captains went against another pair (Brothers). The only requirement of the captain is to provide shirts for his team for that year. Many years we have seen awesome "extras" ranging from Golf Balls, ball markers, fidgits, money clips, etc. ​This page logs the history of the event over the years with the respective team name and shirts.
2009 "Genesis 1:1"
Despite 14+ guys traveling to Galena to play golf started in roughly 2002, the "official" beginning of GRC is 2009. Peter and Joe kicked it off, captain's challenges were created, and yearly event established. Korbar's team won as the event saw 2 of the days in the 100 degree temps.

2010 "Mexican Mutiny"
This was the only year a captain did not provide shirts for his team as the event was still in it's infancy. Fagan was behind the 8-ball for the lack of shirts as well as a mutiny against him when picking the matchups. Beebs putt out of his mind for the event and took home the MVP as well as Captain's award.

2011 "Battle for King's Pride"
Third year of the Galena Ryder Cup event with sharpshooting Kevin Quinn taking on Richie. Both JJC graduates looking to draft Wayne high and take home the prize. Quinn won the battle as a young Mike Fagan took home the MVP award with a very strong showing.

2012 - "Good vs Evil"
Mickey went with different colored shirts for each member of his team to represent superheroes, which fittingly, he opted for Green Lantern. Albert's team stood no chance against the likes of Batman, Superman, and the forces of good.

2013 "The Rematch"
A rematch was decided for 2013 in which the printing company for Joe's shirts screwed up the year. This, like baseball cards, makes owning an Italian Stallions shirt from that year even that much more valuable! Rumor has it Wayne King teed off in the first foursome for all 5 of the rounds.

2014 "New Blood arrives"
JJ introduced everyone to the Chive app as both Muzzy and Mike Z started their entry into Galena Ryder Cup. The lime green pants of JJ were worn 2 out of 4 day for the event. JJ played very strong in his captain year (avoiding any kickball or co-ed softball injury), and was aided by MVP Jim Arnold dominating his matches and winning the MVP.

2015 "Farewell to Wayne"
In Wayne King's last year, the opening ceremonies were epic with celebrations of Providence state championships, JJC National success, and a call initiated from Wayne to the NIU Softball coach to Ed Rossetto for his daughter Erin. Team Callans took the victory, but almost blew it when pairing up Zajeski with Callans in a scramble. They lost six balls that day.

2016 "Convicts vs Cops"
Nothing better than showing up at a public golf course wearing County Jail bright orange shirts and playing 36 rounds of golf. Dave Albert had to miss this year's event but was represented throughout with a comemorative T-Shirt and mugshot on a stick. As far as the competition - VBomb's Swat team had to endure the Smitty shanks, losing the hard-boiled egg challenge, and was capped with Mrs Rosenthal presenting Jason with the POS award at the end with a huge hug.

2017 "Super Bowl of Golf"
Very competitive year with AFC vs NFC along with cool team logo'd ball markers that snap to your hats (Rossetto wanted Steelers, thus AFC). Paul's team won on the last day, but the clear takeaway from that year was the Chubby Bunny competition and how many marshmellows Ed Rossetto could fit in his endless chasm of a mouth.

2018 "The Near Death Experience"
Two of the fairly new players squared off as captains - one very, very loud, and the other confidently reserved. This clearly was the year the most alcohol was consumed and the root cause for the RC Scramble last round to be renamed. As far as the event - Muzzy's team dominated and Modz was the unanimous POS.

2019 "Brothers in Battle"
For the first time in Ryder Cup History, a pair of captains would represent each team - Brothers. As expected, the Smith team was green with a ton of bling, the Latino Heat were red and had a Mexican flag as a banner. The Smiths won the captains challenges 5-0 and held on for the win.

2020 "Covid Stopped Eddie"
Beebs vs Richie in a year where Covid would not stop Galena Ryder Cup..... except for Ed Rossetto who caught it five days before the start of the event!!! Beebs did an awesome job with the shirts and bling, but Richie's team was dominant in the event.

2021 "Never Again"
Titled "Never Again" since the captains both earned personal POS awards from every committee member as well as most of the participants. No Captains Challenges, no draft, no happiness in Smitty's world!!! Still fun, and captains did a great job again with shirts, hats, backpacks, and bling!

The duo has been captains the most overall. Year was a wash due to Mark Smith violently breaking Jason Vitas' leg. Captains provided some cool Black, white, and Red shirts to the whole group.

2023 "TRIPLE UP"
Six total captains with the senior captains being Zajeski(JJ/Branshaw) and Arnold(Holmes/Vitas). Group agreed to allow JJ use allocated funding toward bling and he did not disappoint. Sweatshirts are used constantly by group and Bill Murray hats are outstanding!

Ed vs Alby again and Rocky themed names. Ed Dominated golf, Alby won every coaches challenge. Everyone was given a personalized shirt!
